In the year 1999, on Christmas Eve, two extraordinary kids from different backgrounds meet in Malawi, the Warm Heart of Africa. Kondwani, a courageous 13-year-old, carries the burden of loss in a nation grappling with the devastating impact of HIV and AIDS. Sue, an inquisitive 11-year-old from New Zealand, delights in eating mangoes and observing monkeys.
The primary theme revolves around HIV and AIDS, which inflicted significant loss of life in Africa and led to a surge in orphaned children and other social challenges. It is a compelling narrative that delves into the themes of resilience, hope, and empathy.
Gone For A Walk aims to inspire readers of all ages to understand the importance of empathy, embrace diverse cultures, and appreciate the courage needed to confront uncomfortable truths. While the book primarily targets readers aged eight to fourteen, it can also appeal to all ages, ensuring everyone benefits from its powerful message.
This book is more than fiction; it is also education-focused. At the end, it includes activities to enhance story comprehension and promote English language skills for both Western and African children. Therefore, parents and teachers may recommend it to youngsters.
From the Publisher
Welcome to Tales of Little Heroes!
I am a Malawian author passionate about children’s storytelling, operating under my personal brand, Tales of Little Heroes. I am committed to improving the lives of children and teenagers, mainly in southern Africa. While I’ve shown myself to be an excellent project manager throughout my career, my natural talent for storytelling truly sets me apart. I write children’s fiction with a strong eye for detail and a talent for capturing the spirit of childhood. I work to inspire young people and feed their aspirations. I want to empower and encourage the next generation through stories and entertainment. I use my storytelling talents to highlight significant social issues affecting children and young people, mainly in southern Africa.
I work to build a society where storytelling and purpose coexist and the dreams of little heroes are given a voice, one story at a time.
Inspiring Planning Habits
A monthly and weekly planner strategically complements the journal. It helps the little heroes make the most of their time, visualise their tasks and objectives, and organise their days, weeks, and months for maximum productivity.
Encouraging Reflection and Creativity
Journals are a staple in the Tales of Little Heroes collection, designed to encourage children to express themselves freely. Journaling helps kids develop writing skills, boosts creativity, and provides a safe space for self-reflection.
Building Cognitive Skills through Puzzles
Crossword puzzles are more than just fun activities; they are powerful educational tools. These puzzles enhance vocabulary, improve spelling, and stimulate cognitive development for our little heroes.
Enhancing Early Problem-Solving Skills
Integrating wordsearch puzzles into the Tales of Little Heroes brand ensures that children are constantly challenged and entertained, making learning an enjoyable part of their daily routine.
Colouring books stimulate creativity
Colouring books stimulate creativity, improve fine motor skills, and enhance hand-eye coordination. They also encourage children to focus and practice patience, aiding in the development of concentration skills.
Fostering Imagination and Emotional Growth
Through the adventures of relatable characters, children learn valuable life lessons and develop empathy, all while enjoying an enthralling story. The narrative-driven content lies in its ability to foster a reading culture.
